Cancer Exercise Classes

At Glen Eira Physiotherapy, physiotherapist Jaime Bild has a dedicated focus on delivering personalised cancer care and exercise program prescriptions. With a thorough understanding of the unique challenges faced by cancer patients, Jaime works closely with each individual to provide evidence-based, effective care tailored to their needs.

Our oncology exercise classes are provided in a one-on-one or small group setting, and are designed to improve strength, balance, endurance, coordination, joint mobility, cardiovascular and respiratory health. Each class includes exercises that are carefully selected to support overall physical and mental well-being while considering the specific needs of cancer patients.

Before joining our oncology exercise classes, our patients are required to book in for an initial assessment, as well as undergo several one-on-one private exercise classes to ensure your program is appropriate. We do not follow a “one size fits all” approach for our cancer classes. This therefore allows our physiotherapists to create a customized exercise program that considers individualised factors such as cancer type, treatment stage, and personal recovery goals, ensuring a safe and effective approach to our patient’s rehabilitation journey.

Since then, she has gained extensive experience in the hospital setting, developing a particular interest in oncology. She has honed her skills in this area through dedicated time on the oncology wards in both Australia and The United Kingdom, including working at the renowned Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. She has provided physiotherapy and exercise guidance to cancer care for patients across a wide range of conditions and demographics, including those:

  • Receiving current treatment
  • Preparing for upcoming treatment
  • Before upcoming surgeries (prehabilitation)
  • Post-surgery
  • In remission
  • Managing metastatic cancer
  • Experiencing chronic pain related to cancer or its treatment
  • Experiencing reduced balance and co-ordinator related to cancer or its treatment
  • Facing palliative care needs

Jaime is dedicated to creating equitable access to cancer care and exercise classes, recognising the current gap in availability of these services. She understands that cancer treatment doesn’t stop at the hospital door and that tailored exercise and rehabilitation are crucial to improving outcomes, managing side effects, and enhancing quality of life.
