Pre & Post Natal Clinical Pilates Classes Mulgrave
Pregnancy
At Glen Eira Physiotherapy, our physios provide thorough and tailored Pregnancy Pilates programs.
Our physiotherapists bring a keen interest and numerous years of experience in managing common musculoskeletal pregnancy conditions and developing safe Pilates programs and classes for pregnancy.
Pregnancy Pilates is the ideal way to strengthen your core and help prepare your body for childbirth. Our Pilates programs and classes are individually designed. We believe in small group pilates and limit the groups to 4 people.

The Benefits of Pregnancy Pilates
Exercise during pregnancy brings multiple health benefits, including superior weight control, boosted mood, and greater fitness. It can also diminish the risk of pregnancy-related complications like hypertension and pre-eclampsia.
As your baby grows, the strain on your back rises. The Australian Physiotherapy Association reports that 50% of women will face low back pain during pregnancy. Physiolates exercises can enhance your abdominal muscles, which may lower the risk of developing back pain or pelvic girdle pain.
Another typical issue in pregnancy is bladder leakage. As you advance through your trimesters, your pelvic floor can also weaken. Our team at Physiolates can refer you to a continence physiotherapist for assistance. The APA asserts “up to 67 per cent of women will leak urine (incontinence) when they laugh, sneeze, cough or exercise during pregnancy but those with stronger pelvic floor muscles are less likely to leak during pregnancy and after the baby is born.” (Australian Physiotherapy Association)

Pregnancy Physiotherapy Mulgrave
Glen Eira Physiotherapy features several physios with a keen interest in treating musculoskeletal pain related to pregnancy. Common conditions treated by our physios include:
Sacro-iliac joint pain
Discomfort in one or both buttocks accompanied by low back pain.
Low back pain
Commonly resulting from a posture change due to the growing foetus.
Pubic symphysis pain
Pain in pubic region, usually made worse by standing on one leg or excessive separation of legs.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Wrist pain, pins and needles, and hand numbness, more severe at night.
Rib pain
Due to the rib cage expanding to accommodate the baby.
Diastasis Rectus Abdominis
This often presents as a bulge running vertically down from the stomach. This is the separation of the tummy muscle caused by pregnancy. It is imperative to catch it early. If you notice it during pregnancy the right advice and exercise is important. It is also very important not to start a gym program prior to advice.
Thoracic pain
Discomfort around the bra strap area often starts during pregnancy and can worsen after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
