Pre & Post Natal Clinical Pilates Classes Huntingdale
Pregnancy
At Glen Eira Physiotherapy, our physios offer in-depth and uniquely crafted Pregnancy Pilates programs.
Our physiotherapists possess a strong interest and extensive experience in addressing typical musculoskeletal pregnancy issues and creating safe Pilates programs and classes for pregnancy.
Pregnancy Pilates is an excellent method to strengthen your core and get your body ready for childbirth. Our Pilates programs and classes are tailored individually. We advocate for small group pilates and keep the groups to 4 people.

Why Pregnancy Pilates is Beneficial
Exercise during pregnancy provides numerous health benefits including better weight control, improved mood and greater fitness. It could also reduce the risk of pregnancy-related complications like hypertension and pre-eclampsia.
As your baby grows, the pressure on your back increases. According to the Australian Physiotherapy Association 50% of women will experience low back pain throughout their pregnancy. Physiolates exercises can strengthen your abdominal muscles which can reduce the risk of developing back pain or pelvic girdle pain.
Another usual complaint in pregnancy is bladder leakage. As you move through your trimesters, your pelvic floor can also weaken. Our team at Physiolates can refer you to a continence physiotherapist for support. The APA indicates “up to 67 per cent of women will leak urine (incontinence) when they laugh, sneeze, cough or exercise during pregnancy but those with stronger pelvic floor muscles are less likely to leak during pregnancy and after the baby is born.” (Australian Physiotherapy Association)

Glen Eira Physiotherapy employs several physios who are particularly interested in managing musculoskeletal pain associated with pregnancy. Common conditions treated by our physios include:
Sacro-iliac joint pain
Pain in one or both buttocks coupled with low back pain.
Low back pain
Commonly resulting from a posture change due to the growing foetus.
Pubic symphysis pain
Pain in the pubic area, usually intensified by standing on one leg or excessive leg separation.
Carpal tunnel syndrome
Wrist pain, pins and needles, and hand numbness, more severe at night.
Rib pain
Due to the rib cage expanding to accommodate the baby.
Diastasis Rectus Abdominis
Often appearing as a vertical bulge from the stomach, this is the separation of the abdominal muscle caused by pregnancy. Early detection is crucial. If you notice it during pregnancy, the correct advice and exercises are vital. Avoid starting a gym program without proper guidance.
Thoracic pain
Pain around the bra strap area typically begins during pregnancy and may worsen post-pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
